Engaging
During the ‘Concept’ phase of the project, our team carried out over 20 interviews with Zambian stakeholders to understand their needs and design our solutions to meet them.
Stakeholders included food and beverages industry leaders as well as government, regulatory and policy-making agencies members.
This engagement showed us that there is a significant interest in sustainable technologies from Zambian manufacturers, driven by their desire to be more resilient and arising from requirements set by international development funding organisations.
Further, there is interest from both wastewater infrastructure operators in reducing excess heat in wastewater and from government/regulatory agencies in reducing carbon emissions and air pollution from the use of coal and charcoal in boilers.

Programme of Events
In order to generate awareness and understanding of the potential of heat recovering in water-energy intensive sectors, we have designed a series of events to broaden our reach and engage more Zambian industry leaders.
The first in-person forum with industry thought-leaders took place on November 30, 2023 in Lusaka. A summary is presented here.
The event is part of a programme, details of our future events can be found here (coming soon).
Visualising our engagement network
Using a visualisation tool called VisTRAM (previously called DUVis and developed during our predecessor research project Dwr Uisce - read more here) we have mapped our project activities and the connections with external stakeholders. The level of engagement, from informing to consulting, sharing to co-creating (adapted from source link), can also be explored. This illustrates the transdisciplinarity element of our project, where many of our activities have been designed and carried out with non-academic partners.
